A couple of months ago Dylan informed me he had another brother Jacob who was 5 yrs old. He always refers to him as "my other brother Jacob". Dylan talks about him regularly. He appears to be his alter-ego. His "my other brother Jacob" can do pretty much anything that Jake and I tell Dylan he can't do; such as, use knifes, stay up super late, eat candy all the time, visits his grandpa and grandma at their lake house and drive an excavator. His "my other brother Jacob" recently turned 100 but is still a kid. The crazy thing about this is that Dylan is so quick with his response when you ask him questions about this "my other brother Jacob" and it is like it is real because the stories come so readily and easily.
Jake and I have chosen not to say that this "my other brother Jacob" isn't real. We have both heard that it is healthy and we do not want to discourage it. Jacob will ask Dylan questions about "my other brother Jacob" but after a while he started getting a little curious and maybe confused. "Mommy, is he real" he is thinking about it and then says "no he is not". He tries to tell Dylan that "my other brother Jacob" is not real but Dylan doesn't listen or argues that he is.
Who knows maybe there really is a "my other brother Jacob". :)
